Student Housing

Students can optionally stay in residence at the University of New Brunswick. The UNB campus is centrally located in Fredericton, and is about a 25 minute walk from the Delta or a short bus ride. Rates are as follows:

All rates are per person and include all taxes. Fred-eZone

Things to Do

Following are several activities for delegates as well as family members to take part in during your visit. We plan to organize one or two of these activities as part of the conference festivities, but feel free to take part in as many as you like on your own. Carleton II Riverboat Cruise – Guests are invited cruise along the majestic St. John River and take in the many views of Atlantic Canada’s Riverfront Capital. This can either be a casual event where guests can catch the public one-hour cruises next to the Lighthouse Adventure Centre on the green ($9 each), or we can charter the boat for $175/hour and bring people to the boat in groups. The boat holds approximately 50 people comfortably.

Smallcraft Aquatics Centre – Kayaks and Canoes are available for rent at the centre, located only a few minutes walking distance from the Delta. Guests will enjoy the peace and beauty of the St. John River and experience one of Fredericton’s favorite past times.

Gallery & Arts tour – Fredericton is proud of its commitment to the Arts, and guests can easily experience this commitment by visiting any of our multiple galleries. Guests can start next door to the Delta at the Old Government House, a National and Provincial Historic site, and view many works of art as well as learning about many historic figures and events that have shaped Fredericton’s culture. Next, guests can walk to City Hall on Queen Street where they can receive a guided tour of the tapestries, next guests can move on to the Soldiers’ Barracks & Artisan Studios as well as the Gallery Connexion. A short walk down Queen Street will bring guests to the impressive Beaverbrook Art Gallery – truly one of Fredericton’s greatest gems. Right down the street guests will find Gallery 78. After this, guests can head back down Queen Street and have a tour of our Legislative Assembly, appreciating its remarkable architecture and the many works of art inside. In addition to this walking tour, on Sundays guests can take part in a First Nations’ Craft Experience in the soldiers’ barracks on Sunday @ 2pm.

Free Guided Heritage Walking Tour – Guests can meet at City Hall daily at 10am, 2pm or 4pm to join costumed guide and enjoy hearing local history and folklore as they walk by some of Fredericton’s historic sites.

Historic Garrison District – Touring the historic Garrison district is ideal not only for adults, but for children as well. The soldiers’ barracks & artisans gallery start off the tour, with the guard house next door. At the guard house children can spend “A day in a Soldier’s Life” – a one hour historical & interactive experience – I’ve seen children participate in this and they’ve had tons of fun! From there, Officer’s square is home to the York Sunbury Museum and also the changing of the guard ceremony everyday at 11am. Guests are recruited to take part in “inspecting the guards” – this is a wonderful Fredericton experience. The outdoor summer theater aimed at children happens daily at 12:15pm in officer’s square and outdoor summer concerts happen on Tuesdays @ 7:30pm in Officer’s Square and Wednesdays @ 12:30 outside the Guard House.

Trails Bike Rentals – Fredericton has over 170km of trails that are perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. Guests can either walk the trails or rent bikes from the Lighthouse Adventure Centre on the green – trail maps are also available there.

Science East Centre – This is a must-see for children (and their parents). It is home to over 100 hands-on exhibits guaranteed not only to teach, but to entertain as well.

Odell Park & Arboretum – This is a 175 Hectare park in the heart of Fredericton – minutes from the Delta. There is a duck pond, children’s playground, 16 kilometres of trails, and the Odell Arboretum.

Movie under the Stars – In Barracks Square each Sunday night the City of Fredericton breaks out the silver screen and plays classic movies under the stars – for free. The city will also arrange for groups to have this experience exclusively any night of the week.

NB Summer Music Festival & Acadian Day Celebrations – More information will be available as the dates draw nearer.

Haunted Hikes – This tour is distinct and exceptional featuring spine tingling frights & bone tickling gags – the Calithumpians invite guests to meet the ghosts of historic figures from Fredericton’s past on a lantern-lit tour through Downtown Fredericton. Nightly @ 9:15pm leaving from the Coach house @ 796 Queen Street.

ACTIVITIES REQUIRING TRANSPORTATION – OUTSIDE DOWNTOWN FREDERICTON

Kings Landing – Experience life in the central St. John River Valley throughout the 19th century. Beyond the tour and the ongoing entertainment, they also have competitions like “sheep to shawl”, rug hooking, soap making, etc. where teams compete against each other doing tasks as they would have in the time period of the village.

Fly Fishing – New Brunswick is well-known across North America for its great fishing.

Whale watching – Incredible! Takes place in St. Andrews, about 90 minutes by car from Fredericton. While in St. Andrew’s guests can also have some free time to explore the town.

Mactaquac Provincial Park - Mactaquac Provincial Park is a broad woodland and recreation complex. Guests can discover the beauty of this 500-hectare masterpiece along one of the many walking trails, one of which is wheelchair accessible, or spend the day on the beach; they can windsurf, canoe, fish, or have a picnic. There is also an excellent campground as well as an 18-hole golf course for golfers.

Hartt Island – The park is just 10 minutes from downtown Fredericton and situated on the St. John River with a beautiful view of the river islands. Activities include canoeing, kayaking, boating, fishing, beach volleyball, mini golf, driving range, basketball nets, waterslides, walking & biking trails.

Kingswood Park – Kingswood is home to an 18-hole and a 9-hole executive course with driving range, putting greens and game practice area. Next to the course is Kingswood park where guests can go bowling in the candlepin or ten-pin lanes (with special bumpers to keep the little ones from throwing into the gutter), enjoy a fast-paced game of laser tag, or try out the arcade. There is also and indoor play climber is six m (21 ft.) high, a smaller play area for the younger set.
